Happy Valentine’s Day!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Love is the theme of the day. Husbands love their wives, girls love their boyfriends, parents love their children, but no one knows more about love than God and His son, Jesus Christ.

We shouldn’t just love each other today, but every day. Love isn’t about how big your Valentine’s card is or how much you have spent on your loved one. It isn’t about chocolates, flowers or wine; it’s about acts of kindness, selfless giving, sacrificing your desires for another person or just being there to show you care.

Below I have listed several verses from the Bible which say more than I ever can about the true nature of love.

‘Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.’
1 Corinthians 13: 4-8.

‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ Mark 12:31.

‘Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.’ Romans 12:9.

‘Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.’ Ephesians 4:2.

‘Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.’ John 15:13.

‘Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.’ 1 Peter 4:8.

‘Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from Go d. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.’
1 John 4:7.

‘There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us.’ 1 John 4:18-19.

‘This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.’ 1 John 3:16-18.

‘For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.’
John 3:16.

“Jesus replied: ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ “ “ Matthew 22: 37-39

‘And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the LORD’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good? To the LORD your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it. Yet the LORD set his affection on your forefathers and loved them, and he chose you, their descendants, above all the nations, as it is today. Circumcise your hearts, therefore, and do not be stiff-necked any longer. For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes. He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the alien, giving him food and clothing. And you are to love those who are aliens, for you yourselves were aliens in Egypt.’ Deuteronomy 11:13-22

  1. Thanks for this reminder Sally, I’d like to add Galatians 5 ; 22:25. THIS I believe covers ALL forms of LOVE sometimes
it can be tough and difficult to hold onto at times. KEEP YOUR EYE’S UPON JESUS.
